LIST OF COMMON PHOBIAS

DO you have a phobia of something, do you know whether other's share it with you?
I hope that this list will allow you to learn about common phobias and if you have one is it common or are you unique. (no offense)

1. Arachnophobia
Scared of spiders or creepy crawlies? You are most definitely not alone on this phobia, apparently many adults share the same phobia according to the National Institute of Mental Health 10% of adults share this phobia which is a big amount. Arachnophobia is basically fear of spiders and it does tend to affect women more than men.

2. Acrophobia
Afraid of heights, makes you feel dizzy or you want to faint. Then it is okay as many people also share this fear. Acrophobia is basically the fear of heights which can cause weird behavior or unusual behavior, it is extreme and irrational fear of heights. It can also trigger uncomfortable motions or lead to anxiety attacks.

3. Pteromerhanophobia
Long word? Have no fear! This word basically means having fear of flying, not literally but on an airplane and helicopter.  This can cause panic attacks and sometimes cause irrational behavior, it can also trigger depression if taken way too seriously. When treating this phobia it is done with exposure therapy, being slowly introduced to flying. (not literally)

4. Ophidiophobia
Basically this means..... wait for it.....wait...... it means fear of snakes or having an abnormal fear of snakes, there are other terms used for this but this is a common name. (I think) Often people who are scared of snakes base their fear on experiences, cultural experiences, movies and evolutionary causes.

5. Agoraphobia
The fear of situations which are difficult to escape from, like crowded areas, open spaces or situations that are difficult to escape from in their opinion. Many people who deal with panic attacks are likely to feel agoraphobic towards something

6. Cynophobia
I LOVE DOGS! Do you really? The fear of dogs is very popular among people, it could be because of experience or lack of interaction with a dog. It is mostly personal experiences that this fear is based on.

7. Astraphobia
'I hear thunder, I hear thunder, hark don't you hark don't you' The fear of lightning and thunder, another common fear which can affect people severely especially when it rains. There are other terms for this however I thought this one sounded pretty cool. (I asked my brother what he thought this meant, he said fear of space)

8. Social phobias
Sometimes people are scared of social events or interacting with people. This phobia can affect people severely which causes them to avoid people like family and friends and in extreme cases can cause depression and not wanting to leave the house.

9. Mysophobia
'eww,..... germs' The fear of dirt and germs, this phobia can be confused with OCD(Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) Many people believe it is related as some people feel the need to be clean all the time

10. Homophobia
An extreme aversion to homosexuality or homosexual people. I don't think I am going to make any comments for this one in case I offend anyone

I hope that this list has helped you and that you know now that your phobias are common if there are any that I have not listed then please tell me so that I can include it.

How to fall asleep?

Ever had trouble falling asleep, or had bad nights and you don't seem to sleep at all, then hopefully this list will provide you with everything you need to gain a goodnight sleep.

1. Routine for sleeping and waking
To get a goodnight sleep you need to make sure that you have a routine for sleeping an waking up, for example sleeping at 9.00 and waking up at 7.00 doing this will get your body in a habit for when to be alert and when to relax. Having a regular bedtime or waking up time will allow your body to feel relaxed between the hours rather than tense. Make sure that it is a routine that you can stick to and not give up on.

2. Pre-Sleep
Another way to fall asleep peacefully at night is to get your body ready for the night by giving it something relaxing before going to bed.
Examples:

  • Taking a warm bath and relaxing
  • Listening to calm music to drown out any unwanted sounds
  • Read by a soft light, make sure that the light is not too bright otherwise your brain switches to on mode and will keep you awake
  • Stretch before bed to loosen your body and make it relaxed
3. Work or relax?
Don't work on your bed because the brain becomes confused as to whether you are working or relaxing, for this reason use your bed for only sleeping and don't work on it. Make sure that you have enough space for yourself on the bed as you may feel a little crowded. Make sure that the bed is comfy and that the pillows are soft and comfortable

4. Avoid Caffeine
Caffeine keeps your sugar levels high meaning that you don't fall asleep causing your brain to be awake and alert. The caffeine can last in your immune system for twelve hours meaning that there is no chance of sleeping, only have coffee in the morning so that after twelve hours it will wear off.

5. Darkness
Sometimes the reason for not being able to sleep well can simply be the fact that your room is to bright and the brain confuses it with daylight which is when you should be awake. For this reason it is best to have a dark room where your brain and distinguish the day and the night so it know that this is the time where your body should be relaxing.

6. Manage Stress
Manage stress levels especially if it has been a hard-working and emotional day, try yoga or just taking deep breaths in and out before sleeping to lower stress levels because it means that your brain is trying to stay awake to help solve why you are stressed. If it does become a big issue consider professional help as it helps to tell someone who understands

7. Electronics
Turn off electronics 3-4 hours before going to bed to allow your brain to fall into night mode so that it has a chance to relax itself. Your brain will still be thinking it is daytime meaning it won't let you fall asleep as it is a basic survival instinct.

8. Treat Yourself
Before going to sleep treat yourself by applying may be a little cream to the face or hands to keep your skin feeling healthy while you sleep, and maybe have some scented candles with a nice dreamy scent and not a strong one because it will keep you up. Make sure that the candle is far away from you and that you make sure it can't fall or catch something for safety reasons.

9. Tired
Sometimes if your body is so tired then perhaps you will sleep well because your body needs rest, by exercising a couple hours everyday not only will you be healthy but your brain will know that you need the rest and will make sure that you get the rest that you need.

I hope that this list helps you and that you have beautiful, sweet dreams.

LIST OF COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

There are myths and legends out there, and who knows if they are real all I can say is that there are common misconceptions about things but have you ever wondered that the things you believe in are actually real.

1. Viking helmets
Many people still believe that Vikings wore horns on their helmets, however there is no evidence that suggests that they did, the only time Vikings wore horns on their helmets was shown in a play which is where people probably get the idea from.

2. Sharks can get cancer
Many people still believe that Sharks can't get cancer, however there is evidence and research that shows that Sharks can get cancer. A tumor was found in shark which shows that they can actually get cancer. Some people believe that they don't suffer as much as humans but who knows.

3. Waking sleepwalkers
People believe that if you wake up a sleepwalker it is dangerous because they may have a heart attack or a stroke, however science shows that many sleepwalkers were just confused and were a little violent however they didn't seem to show any signs of harm to the heart or brain. They all seemed to wake up confused, and all were a little violent because of what they were dreaming. So it isn't too bad waking them up but be prepared for violence.

4. Vitamin C and the cold
Vitamin C is not an effective treatment for the cold, many people believe that it is . If you take vitamin c you may just end up getting more of a cold than reducing it. Sorry everyone!

5. Photographic Memory
There is no scientific evidence that people can have photographic memory, many people claim that they have however it is just having good memory and being able to remember the details in an image. Basically, it's just having great memory skills and being able to remember every little detail.

6. Frankenstein
Frankenstein is not the name of the monster but it is the surname of his creator, Victor Frankenstein, in the books or novels about the monster, the monster is often referred to as 'Frankenstein's monster' But never Frankenstein

7. Red makes bulls angry
Many people believe that holding up the color red to a bull will make them angry, however bull's are color blind which means that no matter what color you hold up they will still get angry. Most bulls are naturally aggressive which means that when they are in the ring they will naturally charge at someone who is provoking them

8. Caesar Salad was named after Julius Caesar
Caesar Salad was named after Julius Caesar, wrong, the salad wasn't even invented in Rome, it was actually named after a Chef called Caesar Cardini in 1924 at his restaurant.

 9. Blood in the veins are blue
Your blood will always be red, there is no evidence that suggests that the veins contain blue blood, if you think that because some of your veins are blue and that means that your blood is blue, then you are wrong, sorry, but its actually a trick of light.

10. Energy bars are healthy
Energy bars are not healthy, in fact they are extremely high in sugar content which is what makes you feel as though you have had a boost in your body. It also means that it isn't a great snack option, if your someone who wants to get healthy and enjoy energy bars then go for one that is higher in protein than in sugar.

11. Bats are blind
Ever used the phrase, 'as blind as a bat' well I'm sorry to tell you but you may have actually sounded stupid, bats are not blind, they can see pretty well even though they are dazzled when seeing light excessively. Basically their eyesight is pretty much average.

12. 5 second food rule
Tasty food? drops on to floor? immediately shout 5 second rule?
Sorry to tell you but floors are naturally dirty no matter how hard you try, they may look visually clean but they are not really, so when you drop food onto the floor then whatever germs there are will stick onto it, so no matter how clean it may look there is bacteria on your food.

13. Psychologists spend all their time with crazy people
They don't, just because you saw this in a movie doesn't make it true, and in fact it isn't, there are different types of jobs and people that psychologists spend their time with, for example talking to people who have suffered from loss, depression, anxiety, observing how the mind works and other things. It's not all about 'crazy people' Not all do counselling some just look at mental and health issues that's all.

i hope you found this interesting and now know what many people don't know and you can correct them next time, like the person next to you.........
