Ever had trouble falling asleep, or had bad nights and you don't seem to sleep at all, then hopefully this list will provide you with everything you need to gain a goodnight sleep.
1. Routine for sleeping and wakingTo get a goodnight sleep you need to make sure that you have a routine for sleeping an waking up, for example sleeping at 9.00 and waking up at 7.00 doing this will get your body in a habit for when to be alert and when to relax. Having a regular bedtime or waking up time will allow your body to feel relaxed between the hours rather than tense. Make sure that it is a routine that you can stick to and not give up on.
2. Pre-Sleep
Another way to fall asleep peacefully at night is to get your body ready for the night by giving it something relaxing before going to bed.
Examples:
- Taking a warm bath and relaxing
- Listening to calm music to drown out any unwanted sounds
- Read by a soft light, make sure that the light is not too bright otherwise your brain switches to on mode and will keep you awake
- Stretch before bed to loosen your body and make it relaxed
Don't work on your bed because the brain becomes confused as to whether you are working or relaxing, for this reason use your bed for only sleeping and don't work on it. Make sure that you have enough space for yourself on the bed as you may feel a little crowded. Make sure that the bed is comfy and that the pillows are soft and comfortable
4. Avoid Caffeine
Caffeine keeps your sugar levels high meaning that you don't fall asleep causing your brain to be awake and alert. The caffeine can last in your immune system for twelve hours meaning that there is no chance of sleeping, only have coffee in the morning so that after twelve hours it will wear off.
5. Darkness
Sometimes the reason for not being able to sleep well can simply be the fact that your room is to bright and the brain confuses it with daylight which is when you should be awake. For this reason it is best to have a dark room where your brain and distinguish the day and the night so it know that this is the time where your body should be relaxing.
6. Manage Stress
Manage stress levels especially if it has been a hard-working and emotional day, try yoga or just taking deep breaths in and out before sleeping to lower stress levels because it means that your brain is trying to stay awake to help solve why you are stressed. If it does become a big issue consider professional help as it helps to tell someone who understands
7. Electronics
Turn off electronics 3-4 hours before going to bed to allow your brain to fall into night mode so that it has a chance to relax itself. Your brain will still be thinking it is daytime meaning it won't let you fall asleep as it is a basic survival instinct.
8. Treat Yourself
Before going to sleep treat yourself by applying may be a little cream to the face or hands to keep your skin feeling healthy while you sleep, and maybe have some scented candles with a nice dreamy scent and not a strong one because it will keep you up. Make sure that the candle is far away from you and that you make sure it can't fall or catch something for safety reasons.
9. Tired
Sometimes if your body is so tired then perhaps you will sleep well because your body needs rest, by exercising a couple hours everyday not only will you be healthy but your brain will know that you need the rest and will make sure that you get the rest that you need.
I hope that this list helps you and that you have beautiful, sweet dreams.
